Intel stock (INTC) after its 29% drop: Q3 2026 results, risks and what comes next
Last revised: November 4, 2026 · By the FintechZoom Markets Desk, reviewed under our editorial policy
Intel stock fell 28.6% to $65.76 on October 30, 2026, from $92.07 the day before (Tech Insider). Third-quarter revenue rose 21% to $16.5 billion and data center sales jumped 78%, but Intel guided fourth-quarter revenue to $15.0 billion to $16.0 billion, below the roughly $17.1 billion analysts expected, and blamed a deepening PC slowdown (Intel, Silicon Republic).
This FintechZoom Intel stock analysis covers what the results show, who owns Intel after the US government, Nvidia and an August share sale, the bull and bear cases, and the dates to watch. Intel does not pay a dividend; it suspended its payout from the fourth quarter of 2024 (Fox Business).

Why Intel stock fell 29% on October 30
The fourth-quarter guide disappointed on three lines at once. Revenue of $15.0 billion to $16.0 billion compared with about $17.1 billion expected, non-GAAP EPS of $0.25 with about $0.43 expected, and non-GAAP gross margin of 38% against 44.1% in Q3 (Intel, Tech Insider).
CFO David Zinsner said “we see the PC slowdown continuing at least through the first half of next year.” Counterpoint Research data showed global PC shipments down 21% in Q3, with high memory prices, driven by AI chip demand, pushing up the cost of consumer devices (Silicon Republic).

Intel segment results: data centers up, PCs down
| Segment | Q3 2026 revenue | Change | What drove it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Client Computing and Physical AI (PCs) | $8.1B | −5% | Falling PC shipments as memory costs rise |
| Data Center and AI | $7.3B | +78% | Demand for Xeon server CPUs in AI data centers |
| Intel Foundry | $6.7B | +58% | Mostly chips made for Intel’s own products |
| All other | $0.7B | −30% | Smaller units outside the three main segments |
Source: Intel Q3 2026 results. Segment totals exceed group revenue because $6.3 billion of foundry sales to Intel’s own units is eliminated.
Data center sales grew fast, but Intel said it cannot make enough server chips to offset weaker PC sales. Substrate shortages and an accident at a factory in Israel are expected to cost about $300 million of Q4 revenue, and management called 2027 an “investment year” without positive free cash flow (TIKR via Yahoo Finance). CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the “immediate priority” is increasing Xeon supply (Jon Peddie Research).
Who owns Intel now, and at what price
Intel has raised more than $35 billion of equity from new shareholders since August 2025. Comparing their entry prices with the $65.76 close on October 30 shows how the stock’s swings have played out for each.
| Investor | Date | Amount | Price paid per share | Vs $65.76 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SoftBank | August 18, 2025 | $2B | $23.00 | +186% |
| US government (9.9% stake) | August 22, 2025 | $8.9B | $20.47 | +221% |
| Nvidia (214.7 million shares) | Completed December 29, 2025 | $5B | $23.28 | +182% |
| Public share sale | August 11, 2026 | $20B, about $23B with underwriters’ option | $95.00 | −31% |
Sources: Intel (SoftBank), Engadget (US government), Reuters via Cyprus Mail (Nvidia), Intel and Silicon Republic (share sale). Percentages are FintechZoom calculations.
The US government stake was funded with $5.7 billion of CHIPS Act grants and $3.2 billion from the Secure Enclave program (Engadget). The August share sale added up to about 242 million shares including the option, which dilutes existing holders and means buyers at $95 were sitting on losses of about 31% after October 30.
Intel Foundry and 14A: the long-term bet
Intel’s turnaround plan depends on making chips for other companies. In October Intel released version 0.9 of its 14A process design kit and announced work with ASML on High-NA EUV equipment, but the Q3 release did not name a new external high-volume 14A customer (Jon Peddie Research). Foundry revenue of $6.7 billion is mostly internal, so it says little yet about outside demand. Analysts cited limited traction with external foundry customers after the report (Tech Insider).

Intel vs AMD, Nvidia and TSMC
JPMorgan estimates Intel’s share of server CPU revenue fell from 77% to 53% since late 2022 (TIKR via Yahoo Finance). Nvidia is both a rival in AI accelerators and, since its $5 billion investment, an Intel shareholder and partner. TSMC remains the leading contract manufacturer that Intel Foundry has to win customers from. Compare the stocks in the live chart above, and read our AMD stock and Nvidia stock 2026 analyses.
Intel stock valuation
After the drop, Intel traded at about 40 times forward earnings, down from about 53 times before the report, according to TIKR. From 2014 to 2022 the stock usually traded at 10 to 18 times (TIKR via Yahoo Finance). The multiple is high because current profits are low; the share price is a bet on margins recovering as foundry and server volumes grow.
After the results Bank of America cut Intel to Neutral from Buy, and Bernstein’s Stacy Rasgon cut his price target to $75 from $110 (Tech Insider).
Intel stock forecast: three scenarios
These are FintechZoom scenarios, not price targets. Each names the evidence that would support it and the evidence that would rule it out.
| Scenario | What has to happen | What would invalidate it |
|---|---|---|
| Bull | Q4 gross margin comes in above the 38% guide, Xeon supply catches up with demand, and Intel names a large external 14A customer | No new foundry customer through mid-2027, or server share falls below 50% |
| Base | PC weakness lasts through the first half of 2027 as guided, data center growth continues, and 2027 free cash flow is negative as flagged | A faster PC recovery, or a further cut to the Q4 outlook |
| Bear | Memory prices keep PC demand falling past mid-2027, supply problems repeat, and Intel needs more outside capital | Gross margin back above 40% and positive free cash flow guidance for 2027 |
Catalysts and dates to watch
| Event | Timing | Why it can move the stock |
|---|---|---|
| Q4 2026 results | Late January 2027, date not yet announced | Tests the $15.0B to $16.0B revenue guide and 38% gross margin |
| 2027 capital spending plan | With Q4 results | Size of the “investment year” and free cash flow |
| 14A customer decisions | Ongoing | The clearest proof that the foundry plan can work |
| Memory prices and PC shipments | Monthly data | Intel expects PC shipments to fall about 12% in 2026 and 10% in 2027 (Tech Insider) |
Risks for Intel shareholders
- PC chips are still Intel’s largest segment, and the company expects the slowdown to last at least through the first half of 2027.
- Management expects no positive free cash flow in 2027, so the company depends on cash raised from share sales and investors.
- More share sales would dilute existing holders further.
- Foundry spending only pays off if outside customers commit in volume.
- Government ownership brings policy risk: decisions on plants, subsidies or export rules can change with US politics.
