Methodology

A clear calculation, with your assumptions visible.

Your entries stay on your device. The tool totals eligible assets, subtracts eligible liabilities, compares the result with your selected Nisab, then applies 2.5% only when the threshold is met.

01

Value eligible assets

Use current USD values for metals, cash, receivables, investments, trade property and business holdings.

02

Subtract liabilities

Deduct only obligations allowed under the methodology you follow, typically amounts currently or soon due.

03

Compare with Nisab

If net zakatable wealth meets the selected gold or silver threshold, the estimate applies the standard 2.5% rate.

Calculator formula
Total eligible assets − eligible liabilities = net zakatable wealth

if net ≥ Nisab → net × 2.5%

Questions to consider

Useful guidance before you finalise.

Zakat can be simple in principle and nuanced in practice. These answers explain how this estimator behaves—not a universal ruling for every situation.

Which Nisab should I use?
Gold and silver are both widely used as Nisab references. The silver threshold is normally lower. Scholarly guidance differs by circumstances, so select the basis you have chosen with a qualified scholar.
Why do I enter the metal price myself?
Gold and silver rates fluctuate and local retail conventions differ. User-entered prices prevent a stale or unexplained feed from silently changing your calculation. Use a reliable current market rate for your location and currency on your Zakat date.
Does Zakat apply to my home or rental property?
A primary residence is generally not entered as a zakatable asset. Property purchased for resale can be treated as trade inventory, while rent retained as cash may be zakatable. Intent and structure matter; seek tailored advice.
Should I deduct my entire mortgage or loan?
This calculator does not automatically deduct long-term debt. Enter only the short-term amount considered deductible under the opinion you follow, such as currently due or near-term instalments.
What is hawl?
Hawl is a lunar year. Zakat is generally assessed when the relevant conditions, including ownership of qualifying wealth and Nisab, have been met over the applicable period. Rules can vary by asset category and school.
How are shares and receivables handled?
The correct amount may depend on investment intent, underlying assets, recoverability and methodology. The calculator asks you to enter the zakatable portion you have determined instead of imposing one universal treatment.

Before paying

Review your entries, confirm current gold or silver prices, and ask a qualified scholar about jewellery, pensions, business ownership, disputed receivables, long-term debt, or other complex assets. This estimate does not collect or transfer funds.
